Strange New Worlds S3 Premieres This July on Paramount+

Fans of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds got the highly anticipated trailer for the series’ third season this week. After only a brief look at an April trailer, Paramount+ released the first proper trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3. New episodes of the series are set to premiere on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

Season 2’s climactic finale saw the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise battling the Gorn after being called to a Federation colony world, which they were invading. During the battle, many crew members and other survivors were taken hostage by the Gorn, and Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) is faced with an impossible choice: follow orders and retreat, or go against Starfleet’s orders and try to save the hostages. Pike, of course, chooses the latter, and the preview trailer for Season 3 picks up right where the previous season left off, with a massive space battle as the Enterprise and Gorn warships clash.

The final scenes from Season 2 set up this sequel season as the first episode picks up immediately after the finale and follows Pike and the Enterprise crew as they fight against the Gorn, and the events of the preview trailer are sure to have serious ramifications for the season. The short preview footage of the new season at New York City Comic-Con back in October 2023 dropped after the final credits of Season 2, giving fans a taste of the incredible space action coming soon, and this trailer does not disappoint. Based on the action set in the finale, it can be assumed that the new trailer will depict the end of the conflict between the Enterprise and Gorn as the crew of the starship is forced to grapple with the consequences of their decisions.

Fans will not have to wait long to get a look at Season 3 of Strange New Worlds, as the next trailer for the series aired during the most recent episode of Discovery, but new action sequences and a glimpse of some new villains were included as well. While the battle against the Gorn is expected to wrap up in the new season, the crew will face a new adversary that will put them through the proverbial wringer, testing their resolve, mettle, and loyalty like never before. With this new trailer, fans can expect many things to return to Strange New Worlds, with a blend of different episode styles, including more religious- and faith-based episodes, action-oriented escapades, relationship-centric episodes, fun comedy stories, and more intriguing mysteries.

Season 3 will also feature a variety of new and unexpected genres and storylines, unlike anything else in Star Trek before, according to Paramount+. Of course, the main crew from Strange New Worlds will be back for the new season, with the main cast and recurring cast members returning for more space adventures. The biggest returning guest for the series is Cillian O’Sullivan, who was announced last October for a mysterious new role as the character of Dr. Roger Korby. Korby was originally played in the classic Star Trek: The Original Series by Michael Strong, but he has a rich history in the franchise, having also appeared in The Motion Picture and The Undiscovered Country.

In Strange New Worlds, Korby will be a famous archaeologist who works as an archaeology medical doctor and has long been Christine Chapel’s (Jess Bush) missing fiancé. Korby is set to arrive on the Enterprise to great fanfare, but his sudden return is sure to be awkward for both Chapel and Korby, who have not seem to seen each other in 20 years but are now there. Chapel, however, has already moved on and has found a new love with Spock (Ethan Peck).

Season 3 will also welcome two more well-known actors for guest roles, with Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt set to make appearances, both known for their respective comedy work. The April trailer gave fans a hint at the genre-bending tone for the new episodes, with allusions to the action-packed episodes but also lighter stories with a more humorous feel. This was also touched upon in the new trailer as scenes show the crew of the Enterprise building camaraderie and joking around while also dealing with dramatic subplots, some romantic and more personal, and even the unpredictable fallout from a science experiment gone wrong.

The trailer ends with a simple but effective joke from the new season between Oswalt’s Vulcan and Spock. As they are walking past each other in the hallway, Spock starts to teach his new Vulcan friend the Vulcan hand gesture known as the “high five.” He first pulls it off successfully, but then, when asked to try “down low,” the “too slow” classic Vulcan joke is performed. The new Vulcan character asks, “Why would you do that?” and Spock simply responds, “Because you are too slow.” This brief comedic moment from the trailer shows the episode’s more light-hearted moments that fans can expect alongside the tense, emotional, and action-oriented stories.

Release Date and Schedule

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will premiere on Paramount+ on Thursday, July 17, 2025, and will release new episodes every Thursday until September 11, 2025, for a total of 10 episodes in the third season. The show has already been renewed for Season 4 and is one of the most popular Star Trek series among audiences.

Season 3 is sure to include a diverse range of episodes, from episodes featuring more personal side stories to sci-fi adventures and throwbacks to old Trek episodes as a whole. While it has continued to grapple with the challenges that come with both episodic storytelling and multi-episode character arcs, Strange New Worlds has become one of the most exciting series in the franchise with its promise of larger visuals and grand space-set battles with the Gorn and other unknowns.
