Final Trailer Teases Eve Macarro’s Blood-Soaked Journey
It’s been just over a year since Ana de Armas was officially announced as the star of the latest John Wick spin-off. Now, just a few weeks out from its theatrical release, we’ve gotten a fresh look at the Ballerina from its final trailer.
Lionsgate released the last preview for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina on April 12, 2025. The action-thriller is scheduled for a June 6, 2025, release in theaters.
Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Ballerina is a continuation of a major story thread that was introduced in that movie. We first met a mysterious group of ballerina-assassins during a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it sequence in Parabellum, which served as a prelude to the action in this new film.
Unity Phelan portrayed one of these ballerinas during a rehearsal on stage, and her character will serve as one of the main characters in the spin-off. Ballerina centers on Eve Macarro, who will be played by Ana de Armas. Viewers can expect to see Wick in the upcoming film, though his role in the story remains under wraps.
A Brief Look at the Story of From the World of John Wick: Ballerina
The John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum sets its story during the events of the 2019 sequel. After murdering crime lord Santino D’Antonio (Peter Stormare) in the parking lot of the Continental Hotel, Keanu Reeves’ titular character was declared “excommunicado” by the High Table, which left his life in the hands of anyone. On top of that, Wick was tasked with the impossible as he found himself on the run from a multi-million-dollar bounty across New York City.
He eventually made his way to the headquarters of the Ruska Roma crime syndicate. There, the group was able to provide Wick with shelter and aid as well as act as a surrogate family. Members were placed under the tutelage of the secretive and ppowerfulDirector (Anjelica Huston), who ran the organization and also trained the young recruits as ballerina-assassins.
Director’s most dedicated students were as deadly as they were graceful, dancing their way to their targets and dispatching them with ruthless precision. They were featured in one of Parabellum’s opening moments, which saw one of these ballerinas fight her way out of a club before crossing paths with Wick. One of the characters seen in the training center in the first scene in Parabellum, Eve Macarr,o will now be the star of her spin-off movie.
Ana de Armas will take on the role of Eve, a former member of the Ruska Roma who was forced to leave the group as she matured and had a very specific and personal agenda to accomplish. Director has already made her return to the franchise, as will Winston (Ian McShane), who is reprising his role as manager of the Continental Hotel.
The late Lance Reddick also returns to make his final on-screen appearance as the Continental’s legendary concierge, Charon. Gabriel Byrne is on board to play the film’s primary antagonist as the Chancellor, who uses his power to rally a whole town against Eve, while Sharon Duncan-Brewster and Norman Reedus have been confirmed to play Nogi and Daniel Pine, respectively.

The Tragedy and the Retribution — Eve’s Backstory in Ballerina
Fans first got a look at From the World of John Wick: Ballerina in September 2024. That initial trailer teased a close look at the character of Eve and her backstory as an orphan who lost her parents and who has only one clear and burning objective — to avenge her father’s murder.
It also served to underscore the more intimate and personal nature of the Ballerina’s story. While it promised to remain true to the core of the action set-piece choreography and stylized violence that fans have come to expect from the franchise, the first trailer focused heavily on a more nuanced and emotional story.
Wick’s presence in the film was alluded to but not confirmed with a very short clip that included a mysterious exchange of words between John and the Director. It wasn’t until a follow-up trailer, released in March 2025, that we got a more complete look at what to expect from the spin-off. The mid-March trailer included a rare chance meeting between Wick and the Ballerina, which took place outside in a snowy setting.
Fans were finally treated to more of de Armas and Reeves on screen together, though that trailer was just as sparing when it came to details about the story and the way the spin-off fits into the larger John Wick franchise narrative. The final trailer to be released for the film, which came on April 12, 2025, gives us our first major hint about the screen time Wick will have and how his part of the story will weave into the main one.
Fans of the action film genre have come to expect a certain level of highly choreographed and stylish mayhem from the John Wick franchise. In the 10+ years since the release of the first film, the action sequences have grown only more elaborate and, in a sense, more balletic. Ballerina is no exception to that rule.
